Ski! Hike! Snowmobile! Go out to eat! There are all kinds of things to do in the out-of-doors in Bethel, ME. My favorite places to eat are Sunday River Brewing Company, Butcher Burger, Smokin Good BBQ, Cho Sun, the Good Food Store, the Matterhorn, and the Crossroads Diner for breakfast. There is a snowmobile trail map (Greenstock Snow Sports) in the yurt.
The Gem is the local movie theatre which I used to go to as a kid- it was the closest cinema to Gorham, NH. Bethel is surrounded by great swimming spots in the summer. My favorites are Frenchman's Hole, The Letter S, and Screw Auger Falls.
Last but not least is Sunday River which is now a year-round attraction. In the summer there is disc golf, regular golf, scenic chair lift rides, and hiking. For major events there is the Tough Mountain challenge where you run up and down the mountain completing obstacles along the way and the Wife Carrying Championships which is a sight to be seen. In the winter Sunday River is one of New England's anchor mountains- there is always snow and you can always count on great skiing and riding. I volunteer as a ski patroller and enjoy the diverse terrain across the 8 peaks- White Cap, Locke Mountain, Barker Mountain, Spruce Peak, North Peak, Aurora Basin, Oz, and Jordan Bowl. I hope to see you out on the mountain- but not professionally.
